Tips for Eco-Friendly Weddings

Week june 10th posts

If you want your wedding to be completely eco-friendly and sustainable you should consider making some green choices to reduce your event’s effect on the environment. The key is to reduce your carbon footprint. Since sustainability is a popular concept, you can easily find green options while planning your wedding.

Here are some tips for your perfect eco-friendly wedding:

  • Wedding venue: Choose a venue whose commercial practices are sustainable. For instance, make sure they use local products, they do not use disposable plastic tableware, they implement separate collection correctly, among others.

  • Catering: Select caterers who use local products (vegetables, fish, meat and wine) and seasonal cuisine. Also avoid having many leftovers and opt for plated dishes if you can.

  • Bride dress and accessories: Get a second-hand wedding dress or rent it.  Once you use it you can definitely recycle it or return it. Same apply to the bridal accessories: shoes, jewelry, tiaras, brooches, veil, among others.

  • Invitations: choose to send only electronic invitations, do not print them out. E-invitations are easy to create, there are plenty of free online tools you can use on the web and most importantly you can erase this item from your wedding budget, since there will be no expense. If you have to print the invitations you can opt for seed paper which is biodegradable material.

  • Name tags & Menu: if you cannot avoid having name tags, a table sitting chart and Menus, try to use recycled paper and eco-friendly inks.

  • Wedding favors: you have plenty of green choices here. From seed packets to aromatic herbs kits, from succulents to other plants, from donations to charitable organizations working to protect the environment to sponsoring the planting of a tree. You can also opt for homemade edible products, such as jams, preserves, herbs mix or tea blends, coffee blends. Other options are homemade candles, soaps or shampoo bars.

  • Charity registry: you can opt for a charity registry to collect donations for a specific cause instead of receiving the usual wedding presents.

  • Flowers: instead of freshly cut flowers you can choose potted plants such as orchids or succulents, or herbs. These options can be reused at home, planted once again. Your guests could bring them home as wedding favors.

These are useful tips if you choose to opt for a green wedding, but remember that planning an eco-friendly wedding is not necessarily more difficult to plan than a less environmentally friendly event.

Dessert Table is Becoming a Must Have!

dessert table deci

If there is something I have clearly understood in the last years as wedding planner is that an amazing wedding cake, displayed in the right way, rounded by other mini-desserts, cupcakes, chocolate truffles, macarons, cookies and more will seriously impress your guests. A well done dessert table, with the right selection of sweets, the appropriate decoration will become the most frequented spot of the reception. People will look at the sweets as child thinking on which sweets to pick. Among them you can opt for cupcakes, truffles, cookies, cake pops, macarons, candies, jelly beans, little tarts, chocolate bars, etc.

Here few tips:

* Personalize your dessert table, based on guests’ tastes and yours as well. For instance if you are into chocolate, go for chocolate truffles, little chocolate cookies, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate cake pops etc.dessert table of chocolate

* Balance the selection of desserts with the wedding cake flavor. If you opted for a chocolate cake, avoid to choose more chocolate sweets.

selection of desserts

* Use decoration in line with your color palette. If you selected green tones, use green elements on top of the desserts, for the frosting tones, for the cupcakes wrappers, for the tray, the dessert labels, etc.

decoration with dessert table

* Use cake stands, tiers servers, pedestals and plates of different sises but try to find a sustantial armony in the entire design idea of the table.

cake stands

* Use inedible elements just as backing or at the sides of the table, such as balloons, paper rosettes, ribbons, flower arrangements, etc.

flower arrangements

* Nice to have: a little coffee and tea station next to the dessert table, take-away boxes, so that your guests can decide to take away some of the desserts adn/or a piece of cake.

Considering that we are in Peru, give your dessert table a special twist adding Peruvian traditional sweets, such as “alfajores” and “suspiro a la limeña”.

How to Plan Your Wedding Without Flowers

decorations with out flowers

We all know that flowers are always related to wedding and to ceremonies in general, but I had brides and grooms that really were not into flowers. I am also not a big flowers fun, but I understand that in some occasions it is inevitable to use flower decorations. The majority of us thinks that weddings are one of those occasions, but it is not like this. If you do not want to use flowers, you should be creative and use other items to create visual effects. That is why today I want to give you some no-flower decoration ideas for your upcoming wedding celebration!

1. Candles: use candles as centerpieces, try to create a centerpiece with different sizes of candles, better if are of the same color or different tones of the same colors. For example, use five candles of different shades of green or blue. Always stick with your wedding colors palette. You can also use candelabrum or little clear glass vases, to give to your table an elegant touch.

2. Balloons: use plenty of balloons! I really love the effect of balloons, they create a bohemian and vintage effect if you select the right colors! Try to use pastel colors (light pink, light yellow, light red and blue) if your goal is to have a bohemian wedding celebration. The effect will be awesome! You can even create balloon backdrop or decorate a specific corner of the reception area with them.

3. Origami/paper flowers: this is a real trend for 2018 wedding celebration. Use an origami centerpiece or create paper flowers to use as centerpiece! Paper decoration is a great option to use instead of real flowers. Once again, try to stick with your color palette, use different shade of the same color for origami. You can also create lines of origami secured with twine and hang them around the reception area.

4. Shells: if you are having a beach wedding, use shells as main decoration elements. For instance, you can create a nice centerpiece with shells of different sizes and colors combined with sand in a glass vase.

6. Pins: use pins instead of traditional boutonnieres for the groom and bestmen! This is really a trendy alternative to flower boutonnieres.

7. Vegetable/Foliage bouquets: you can opt for a “veggie bouquet” for your wedding, use cabbage, kale, cauliflowers or use foliage, pine cones and berries. You can have a no flowers bouquet and still be chic, do not worry! ?

9. Succulents: other way to avoid flowers decoration is to use succulents, little plants used as centerpiece or accurately placed in specific corners of the wedding reception area. A part from the guests’ tables, use it to decorate the bar, the stage and of course the buffet table.

No flowers decoration elements are very versatile, and the good thing is that you can use elements that have a special meaning for you, they can let you remember specific situations of your love story or your life together as couple, there is more space for imagination and this way you can add a personal touch to your wedding celebration.

Red and White Wedding Inspiration

wedding cake

A red and white wedding never goes out of fashion because red is the color of passion and romance and it is quite glamour to use it for a wedding reception. Here some snapshots from one of our wedding celebrations where red and white were the colors selected for the occasion by bride and groom.

bouquet

The bride opted for a classic bouquet with red and white flowers wrapped with a thin white ribbon. This is a very simple and elegant bouquet, ideal for an intimate outdoor wedding. Be sure to have everything ready before picking the flowers for your bouquet because this needs to be in line with all the other decoration elements of your wedding.

read and white inspiration

The wedding cake was very simple, a 1-tier cake covered in white fondant and topped with little red flowers decoration and wrapped with a tiny red ribbon made of fondant. Due to the rustic style of the wedding we decided to place the cake on a wooden base, and to add two little glass vases on the table.

A part from the wedding cake bride and groom decided to have some red velvet cupacakes topped with white fondant and a little red flower. They were soooo cute!

venue

To keep going with the red details, the table setting had several red accents: you can see the napkins and the little flowers centerpiece, which brings a romantic atmosphere to the rustic reception ballroom. It is important to stick with little decoration elements if you choose strong colors such as red, otherwise it could be way tooooo much.
