A Fun Peru Destination Wedding

Katrina & Franc

Peru destination weddings can be so much fun! We had the pleasure to be part as wedding coordinators of a very special and entertained destination wedding in Paracas, a town located on the Peruvian central coast. It is about 3 hours car ride from Lima.

Paracas wedding

Bride and groom were looking for a relaxed wedding celebration with plenty of food and drinks, nothing too fancy, but something absolutely fun with a relaxed atmosphere for their guests. We tought about a beautiful Oceanfront venue in the area, with several open space options and fabulous grounds they could consider for their specia day.

The result was a stylish and fun wedding celebration in front of the Pacific Ocean, which blended the charme of Afro-Peruvian traditions and the modernity of Australian culture.

The ceremony setting was extremely simple, a foliage half-moon arch placed in one of the garden areas of the venue, rounded by tropical palms with the ocean right in front. We opted for wooden back chairs for the guests and little bougainvillea flower arrangements. Bestmen and bridesmaids, dressed up respectively in beige and tobacco tones, stand up at bride and groom’s sides. The sun was shining during the ceremony, the ocean breeze was quite intense, as well as the sound of the ocean’s waves…it was such a special moment for all.

Wedding ceremony

The reception was really fun! Fourteen rounded table with white tablecloths, delicate flower arrangements with few cream, white or malva flowers, wooden chairs set around a squared wooden dancefloor structure placed in front of the long bar. As backing for the bar, we used vintage lamps hung up on different levels. Wooden and cream tones fabric were the main characters for the reception. The lighting effect was beautiful at night, few bulb lines hung from the top of the dancefloor to all the reception area and few reflectors for the party.

DCIM100GOPROGOPR0333.JPG

Bride and groom opted for a champagne fountain, very popular in Australian weddings. They started pouring champagne into the glasses and people helped themselves from the tower. The entertainment part was also very important for bride and groom, they choose an Afro-dance show and cajon and zapateo show. The cajon is a traditional Peruvian percussion instrument, a sort of box-shaped played with the hands and fingers, used in Afro-Peruvian music, but currently used also in flamenco. Zapateo is a type of dance, also typical of the Afro-Peruvian culture, where dancers use their feet as percussion instruments. It is usually accompanied by the Peruvian cajon.

The party was so much fun, the dancefloor was so crowded and the guests danced until dawn.
This is definitely a great venue for outdoor wedding celebrations!

How to Design a Wedding Mood Board

wedding board

Nowadays planning a wedding could be a bit challenging, due to the enormous variety of existing wedding themes, trendy color palettes, wide range of flowers available, multiple table arrangements ideas, etc. That’s why we always suggest our couple to start from a wedding mood board, a collection of pictures from other weddings with ideas, colors, decorations they might like. You don’t know what a wedding mood board is? Ok, let’s start from the very beginning. A wedding mood board is the visual representation of your wedding, which should reflect your vision and inspiration. It should contain specific ideas, details and elements that must be included in your wedding design.

Making a mood board is not an easy task! We know that with Internet you have access to thousands of wedding ideas, wedding trends and so on, so you might need to spend a bit of time surfing the net and collecting ideas.

First step: questioning! Start asking yourself the basic questions, such as: When do I want to get married? Where am I going to get married? How many guests do I have? Among others. Try to answer these questions before designing your mood board.

wedding planning

Second step: choose your wedding theme, such as rustic, classic, glamourous, shabby, boho, etc.

wedding ceremony

Third step: it’s time to choose your color palette! Look into color palettes websites, there are many available. You can create your palette from an image, you have tons of options.

Wedding Color palette

Fourth step: Once you have a clear the wedding theme and the color palette you can start selecting more specific ideas searching the net. Try to divide idea, that will help you narrowing down the selections you make. For instance, you can divide your search in categories: wedding cake, table flower arrangements, ceremony arch, table settings, flower bouquets, etc.

mood board wedding

Fifth step: Once you have your first selection, try to narrow down the pictures you selected at first. For instance, if you have 5 flowers bouquet, reduce the selection to two options. I know this is not easy, but you have to try, otherwise you’ll end up having too many ideas on the table and this could be confusing.

Sixth step: create the mood board. You can use the tool you prefer, from Power Point to a simple Word, where you can paste the pics. Today we have other app and software you can use for creating your mood board. Pinterest is the one we use the most. It is very useful and efficient since you can share the board you create with your partner and work together. If you have a wedding planner, you can also share the board with him/her.

wedding board pinterest

Seventh step: check everything once again and see if you need to make any change or cut some ideas. Kee in mind that less is more, so try to include very specific details.mood board wedding final

I think that the mood board is a very effective way to plan a wedding, it makes things easy for us and for the couple itself. You should try to stick with the mood board and try to analyze any new idea considering the mood of your board. I mean if you want a classic ivory peonies bouquet, but you are planning a glamorous wedding with red roses flowers arrangements, you should probably stick to red roses bouquet. So, this tool will definitely help you out in the planning process. Also, it will reflect your idea, what you envision for your wedding and you must share it with your wedding suppliers so that they have a real sense of what you want for your special day.

So now guys, you have a lot to work to do before sending your wedding planner your mood board! 🙂

Bridemaids’ Duties on the Wedding Day

Bridemaids

In a previous article we spoke about Bridesmaids’ duties before the wedding event, you can find it here (http://blog.sayidoinperu.com/bridemaid-pre-wedding-duties/) al our tips.

Here we try to figure it our what are the bridesmaids’ duties for the actual wedding day, what are the specific tasks you should perform if you have been asked to be a bridesmaid for your friend’s wedding and you have no idea of what you can do to help and support her on this special day. Think of it about the ultimate checklist for Bridesmaids’s wedding day duties.

W0369 Chiquita Green 0307

So after supporting the bride during the wedding planning process, the wedding shower and wedding side-events your job hasn’t finished yet, there is still the big day with the wedding ceremony and the reception to go. So be ready to be there for the bride! Here a list of duties for the wedding day:

  • Try to keep a calm and happy atmosphere among the other bridesmaids and the bride throughout all the day: this is extremely important since your friend will need your emotional support on the wedding day, remeber that she will be nervous!

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • Try to be on-time for the bride’s hairdresser and make-up artist appointments, it could be at the saloon/spa or at her house or ceremony venue, but be there on time.

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • Prepare an emergency kit for the bride; this should include tissues, lipgloss/lipstick and other make up she might need during the day for a touch-upa sewing kit in case of last minute dress retouches or for any wedding dress problems may arise, quicksilvers are also essential in my experience and very practical. Also, include in the kit some basic remedies, such as aspirin. It is important to be prepared!

braidmaid duty 2

  • Do not forget the snack and a bottle of champagne for the bride and the other bridesmaids while you’re getting ready. This is very important also for creating a relaxing atmosphere before the ceremony.
  •  Get dress and ready before the bride to help her into the bridal gown. This is one of the nicest moment for the pre-wedding photography session, so make sure that the photographer is there to document this special moment.

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • During the ceremony keep an eye on the bride’s veil, it should be placed in the right way (depending on the veil usually it could go on a side or in the aisle) for the photographer to take great pictures. Seat in the front by the bride’s side and be ready for the procession back out at the end of the ceremony.

Bridemaid with bride

  • Be prepared with the wedding party to enter the reception area right before bride and groom once you are announced. So do not get lost during the cocktail hour, nobody wants to look for you in that moment and bride and groom won’t be eager to wait for you!

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • You might need to give a speech after bride and groom arrival at the reception venue, this actually depends on the bride’s choice. So be prepared for it and have your speech ready before the wedding day, considering that this day you will probably have no time to organize your idea and write down something. You can note down on a piece of paper your ideas or on your cellphone, or just memorize it. It is up to you!

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • Try to be the soul of the party and make sure that all the guests are having a great time! So, once the music kicks in, start dancing on the dance floor, so that people will join you and the party will easily start. Also try to mix with the guests and make sure that people are entertained. This will help bride and groom to relax and have fun.

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  • Help with any surprise you prepared for the reception and party time, any entertainment show, special dances, flashmob, etc.
  • Help with the newlyweds exit at the end of the reception gathering the guests outside and have the car ready for them to go away.

So bridesmaids to be, we hope that this article can help you have your duties clear and be a real supportive rock for the bride during her special day!

Wedding Inspiration in The Sacred Valley

wedding secret valley

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of organizing a very special wedding celebration in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Bride and groom had a rustic wedding in mind since the very beginning of the planning process and I had so much fun putting together all the pieces of this amazing rustic-style event.

venue wedding

Choosing the venue wasn’t so easy since there are soooooo many wedding venue options in that area that could fit their expectations, and all of them are “rustic-style oriented”. I come up with this expression myself now! hihihihi 😀

charming chapel

The venue chosen is conveniently located in the heart of the Valley, has a colonial architectural structure, a beautiful courtyard, a charming chapel and the stunning Andean mountains on the background. The first thought I had was: they will manage to have amazing pictures here, therefore everlasting memories of this special moment!

decorations venue

Also after selecting the perfect venue for them (actually also for me) we started looking into all the specific details related to decorations, furnitures, bride’s bouquet, wedding cake, music, etc. All the details you should consider in the wedding planning process. The decorations were mainly in wood, the centerpieces were amazing with foliage, white Hydrangeas, mini Chinese roses in a glass vase wrapped with twine on a wood base and white candles in little glass vases.

fairy lights

Bride and groom loved the idea of signs, so they decided to use them to point the reception area for the guest. As decorative elements we also used little slates for the bar and the welcome guests table. The tent they choose was white with rustic details in the inside mainly made of raffia and beautiful fairy lights hanging from the roof. As decoration we used an old bike and old wooden furniture. The result was an amazing atmosphere, soft and cozy lighting and elegant decorations.

bride’s bouquet

The bride’s bouquet was lovely! The bride opted for an airy bouquet with greenery, foliage, white roses of different sizes, all perfectly assembled.

The cake was a 2-tier almond cake filled with milk chocolate cream and covered by buttercream…absolutely delicious! Also the cake was in rustic style with twigs in chocolate and topped with some greenery.

traditional Peruvian wedding

As in any traditional Peruvian wedding there was also a special time dedicated to the famous “Hora loca”. The couple chose a traditional Peruvian theme, with character from Peruvian traditions, such as the Guinea Pig, two typical Andean characters called “maqtas” and a stilt walker.

great memories

Overall I really enjoyed the planning process for this wedding, looking into all the details, the decorations, the lighting, the old furniture. And the best part is that everything run smoothly that day! Bride, groom and all the guests really enjoyed their time in Peru and I am sure they went back home with some great memories and a desire of coming back to Peru soon.

One of the main issues for bride and groom getting married abroad is choosing the perfect church for their wedding ceremony in Peru. Before picking the right church they will have to consider different elements:

  • Location

  • Distance from reception venue.

SAN FRANCISCO CHURCH

Since I generally receive so many requests of information about churches in Lima I would like to share with you some information I collected during these years working as wedding planner. I believe this post will be extremely useful if you are in the process of selecting the church for your wedding ceremony in Lima. Here my top four!

  1. SAN FRANCISCO CHURCH

This church is located in the historical center of the capital nearby the main square (Plaza de Armas). The church structure is a great example of Spanish baroque architecture, which you can feel from the beautiful façade. It is not easy to get a sport to officiate a wedding in this church since once the time schedule is open for booking there are many requests and you might need to go there and make your queue early in the morning to get a specific time and a specific day. Otherwise you will have to accept the availability they have left. There is a high demand for this church, since it is very traditional and a beautiful place to get married. The church is open from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, you can bring a chorus or a string quartet but they need to play religious music at least for the mass, no religious music is allowed for the bride’s entrance and for the exit. Price to get married in this church is SOL 1000.00 as for 2016, price might have changed since then. You need to make an initial payment of SOL 300.00 to book the date and time and the final payment needs to be made at least three months before your wedding.

NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FATIMA CHURCH

  1. NUESTRA SEÑORA DE FATIMA CHURCH

This nice church is located in the heart of Miraflores district, along Lima’s Malecon. This is a big building and usually is used for big wedding, approximately 150-250 people attending, since it is hard to fill up all the space. The façade of the building is of a clear cream color and once you get in you will be amazed by the spacious and airy naves.  A big pro of choosing this church is that it is located nearby a beautiful park, where you can go to take picture before or after the ceremony. I can guarantee that the photos at sunset in the park with the ocean view are beautiful! Also, this church is conveniently located in the heart of Miraflores, in case you choose to have the reception in this district is a good choice. Price to get married in this church is SOL 1600.00 if you want to rent the parish hall for a small refreshment and SOL 1450.00 without the parish hall as for 2016, prices might have changed since then. You need to make an initial payment of SOL 1050.00 for the church and the parish hall and SOL 850.00 if you choose only the church to book the date and time. Price includes background music, flower arrangements in the altar and the carpet.

This church is located in the heart of Lima’s business district: San Isidro. Another feature that we need to remark is the wonderful stained glass window, which will catch your look. The church is quite big and is perfect for weddings of about 100-150 people. Price for the ceremony is USD 750.00, which also includes the parish hall. You need to make an initial payment of USD 400.00 to book the date and time.

Tips for Picking the Right Bouquet for your Wedding

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

Sometimes, picking the bouquet could be an issue! Don’t know what to do or what to choose? Don’t worry, here I give you some useful tips that you better keep in mind while planning your wedding!

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING

A main element you should consider before picking your wedding bouquet is the style of your wedding celebration: will it be romantic, bohemian, rustic, classic? For example if you choose a rustic wedding, the perfect bouquet must include colorful wildflowers and twine, if you choose a romantic wedding, you can use white and light pink roses and for a bohemian wedding you can use an eye-catching bouquet with field flowers, feathers, leaves, branches and spikes.

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING 2

Another tip to picking the bouquet is the height of the bride; you don’t need to use a big or heavy bouquet if you are not tall, try to find a bouquet size according to your height.

BOUQUET FOR YOUR WEDDING 3

The way you going to carry the bouquet, the size and shape are very relevant, we can choose between classic bouquets, cascade bouquet, round bouquet, posy, etc. for example if you want to take it very relaxed  you can chose a classic or posy bouquet.

bouquet

You need to know that the bouquet is one of the most important accessories for your wedding, so be sure to have everything quite ready before picking the flowers for your bouquet because this needs to be in line with all the other elements of our wedding (dress, decoration, colorpalette, centerpiece, etc.)

10 Wedding Superstitions you Should Keep in Mind!

10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind – featured v2

Times have changed but wedding superstitions are certainly alive! There are many beliefs on what bride and groom can or cannot do before the wedding celebration. There are few things that they cannot do before the wedding and things that they absolutely have to do before the big day otherwise they will be cursed for all their married life. And everybody here wants to be happily married right? So here a list of the most famous wedding superstitions that you can easily follow; believe or not in superstations I suggest to keep them in mind on your wedding day!

View More: http://maikdobiey.pass.us/wedding-annamarco

  1. Bride and groom cannot see each other before the wedding! This is a classic superstition. Bride and groom can see each other only before the midnight of the wedding day; otherwise you have to wait until you are at the altar.
  2. The groom cannot see the bride’s wedding dress before the ceremony, this means very bad luck! So you brides to be, do not allow your future husband into your room the night before your wedding or in case he is around and you cannot avoid it hide your wedding dress somewhere else safe (your closet if it fits or somebody else’s room).
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 2
  3. On the wedding day the bride must have something old, something new and something borrowed. Something old symbolizes the past and the importance of bride’s previous life; something new symbolizes the future and the new married life ahead; finally something borrowed would ideally be from a family member or a close friend, someone who has a real meaning for the bride. Something borrowed symbolizes that loved people are always with us, even when we start a new phase of our life.
  4. There is also another theory according to which the bride needs to wear something blue on the wedding day. This could be an invisible blue ribbon on bride’s bra, a bracelet with blue details, but it is very common that the bride wear a blue garter under the wedding dress. The blue symbolizes bride’s sincerity and purity.
  5. The bride cannot look herself in the mirror before going to the ceremony, in case she cannot avoid doing so she needs to take off a shoe or an earring or some other accessories.

  6. If it rains on your wedding day do not panic! In many cultures there are beliefs that states that if it rains on your wedding day this will bring your marriage good luck! This is due to the fact that a wet knot is more difficult to untie than a dry one; that is why you will have a longer and happier marriage than ever!
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 4
  7. While going to the ceremony venue the bride must not cross a nun or a monk’s path, this can bring you very bad luck!
  8. During the ceremony keep an eye on your wedding rings! It is extremely important that they do not fall on the ground during the wedding ceremony. In case this happens you must have the priest or your officiant to pick them up. Do not pick them up yourself!
10 wedding supertitions you should keep in mind - 5
  9. Break a glass once married! According to this belief you will have many happy years of marriage as the pieces the glass breaks into.
  10. There are different theories on the best day of the week to get married. Usually it is known that you should not get married on Tuesday or Friday. Tuesday is the day of Mars, the god of the war so it is obvious that when you are starting a marriage you want to avoid any kind of fight. And Friday is known as the day of the birth of the evil spirits, so you might want to avoid this day too. But it is actually relative, since in some country as Norway, they believe that Friday is an excellent day to get married because is the day of Venus, the God of love. Saturday is the perfect day to get married according to many cultures, which is why the majority of the weddings take place on this day.shutterstock_127839878 (1)

There are many other beliefs and superstitions related to the wedding day, this is a list of the ones I have heard many times, also from my couples. If you know more wedding superstitions it would be great if you could share them in the comments!
